Kachin Independence Army (KIA) has captured some junta camps following its offenive operation against almost all junta camps between Bhamo and Mansi Townships in Kachin State, since 4 December, KIA frontline sources said.

A KIA frontline source said the KIA has launched simultaneous offensives against the junta’s Light Infantry Battalions-319, 601, 523 and Infantry Battalion (IB)-47 in Mansi Township, Nyaungbinthar camp, Hpankharkone, Namhpar and the compound of Bhamo University.

“Fighting has erupted since at around 5 am on 4 December. The fighting has spread near Bhamo in addition to Momauk and Mansi. The fighting is taking place at the 3-mile in Momauk.

Around 10 am on 4 December, the KIA captured the Nyaung Bin Thar camp on the Bhamo-Mansi road, along with two camps of IB-47 battalion headquarters and the camp stationed in the compound of Bhamo University, according to a KIA frontline source.

Similarly, fighting continues to intensify near Bhamo town and at the 3- Mile on the way to Momauk. The KIA and allied forces have carried out offensive operations along the Bhamo, Mansi, and Momauk roads, he added.

Regarding the intense fighting along the Bhamo-Mansi route, Colonel Naw Bu, spokesperson for the KIO, said, “Since this morning, fighting has intensified across Bhamo and Mansi. So far, no details are available about the capture of the camps. All I know is that there is fighting everywhere.”

Fighting in Kachin State has been calm for about two week after the KIA took complete control of Zahkung Ting Ying’s Kachin Special Region-1— Chipwi, Tsawlaw, Pang War and Kanpiketi border town—In September and October.

Since 4 December, the KIA has simultaneously launched offensives against nearly all junta camps across Bhamo and Mansi by opening three military fronts.

Military analysts said that the KIA’s renewed battles are part of an effort to capture both Bhamo and Mansi.

Kachin State consists of Myitkyina, Putao, Bhamo, and Mohnyin Districts, along with 18 townships, and has a population of over one million people. Bhamo District, located beside the Ayeyawaddy River, serves as a strategic military hub for controlling waterways.
