Nearly 6,000 people from eight villages in Salin Township in Magway Region have fled due to the military council’s raids in the area, according to local sources.
Residents from eight villages, including Deedokepin, have fled due to a military column of around 300 soldiers advancing from Seikphyu.
A local said, “The junta’s column heading to Seikphyu enters the villages through the Seswe junction. On the first day, the military column was ambushed. They continued their march, leaving behind seven or eight soldiers who were killed in the ambush.”
Since 14 December, the military column has entered these villages, with the junta conducting raids by both land and air, according to locals.
The IDPs are in urgent need of food, shelter, and medicine. They are forced to keep moving from place to place as the military column remains active.
Currently, the defense forces have gained control of area up to Sankalay village. They stated that it is possible the army will enter the area for an area-clearing operation.
On 17 December, Sankalay village, home to more than 100 households, was reduced to ash by the military council.
As of 18 December, the sounds of heavy shelling can still be heard near the villages, and the junta’s column has not yet withdrawn from the area.
