The military junta has resumed its offensives and artillery attacks one day after announcing a ceasefire, according to local sources.
On 2 April, junta leader Min Aung Hlaing announced a ceasefire, yet the very next day, 3 April, a column of approximately 250 soldiers advanced into Salin Township.
“We thought we could return home because of the ceasefire. But yesterday (3 April), they launched an offensive. They fired heavy weapons. They’re still shooting today too. Nothing has changed.”
Villagers also reported that on 3 April, a combined force of Pyu Saw Htee militia and junta troops from Kyaung Kone Gyi village in Pwintbyu Township fired artillery toward Yae Poke Ka Lay village.
Furthermore, on the morning of 4 April, junta troops stationed in Ku Taw village in Sidoktaya Township were reported to have shelled the area around Mon Hnyin village with heavy artillery, according to locals.
Following a powerful earthquake centered in Sagaing and Mandalay on 28 March, the junta carried out no fewer than ten airstrikes on Ta Nyaung and Thit Khauk Taung villages in Salin Township, as confirmed by local sources.
