Junta plans to send young militia graduates from Naung Mon to Khaung Lan Hpu

The military council is conducting militia training in Naung Mon town in Puta-O District, Kachin State, and is preparing to send the graduates to Khaung Lan Hpu, according to local sources.

They said that since last February, the military council and the Naung Mon Militia have been conducting door-to-door recruitment of young men from Naung Mon town and nearby villages to join the militia.

A local woman from Naung Mon said, “They have completed their training. The number of trainees is over 100. Among them are some girls, but most are men. Now they will be sent to Khaung Lan Hpu.”

She said that around 120 young people were recruited under the mandatory militia program and have already completed their training.

Currently, the 120 young militiamen who recently completed their training are set to join the Khaung Lan Hpu local militia and serve on the front lines later this month.

A local man said, “They recruited youths from both the town and nearby villages. It was a one-month course, which has now been completed. So, they will be sent to the front line in Khaung Lan Hpu. The training took place at a site about two miles from the town.”

In addition, on 7 February, the township administrator personally summoned residents to gather at Naung Mon Basic Education High School and urged them to join the militia, according to locals.

On 10 November 2024, the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and its allied forces took control of Lan Se village in Tsawlaw Township, which borders Khaung Lan Hpu Township.

After the capture of Lan Se village, the Khaung Lan Phu local militia and junta troops have begun military preparations, according to ground military sources.

On 15 December 2024, the KIA and allied forces also seized control of the Lahual frontline camp of the Khaung Lan Hpu local militia in Khaung Lan Hpu Township.

After the capture of camps in Khaung Lan Hpu, junta troops and the militia forces have made reinforcements and have been conducting militia training courses in the area.
