Local residents report that the military council attacked Yae Poke Gyi village, also known as Yaung Pe Suu (named after their traditional hairstyle), in Pwint Phyu Township, Magway Region.
According to local residents, at around 9 am on 26 January, the military carried out airstrikes on Yae Poke Gyi village and attacked it with machine guns.
A local resident said, “First, the plane flew overhead. Then, they fired around the village and into the village. The people had to run and hide. After hearing gunshots for hours, it eventually stopped.”
Local residents said they heard the sounds of small arms fire before the airstrikes, but they were unsure of the exact reason for the shooting.
After the airstrikes, the military council deployed additional troops, prompting local residents to flee for safety.
The extent of the damage caused by the airstrikes is still unclear, but the sound of gunfire stopped at around 11:00 am.
The military council has been conducting frequent airstrikes in Pwint Phyu Township. This marks the third attack, including a paramotor attack, in just one month.
On 22 February, the junta bombed a group of huts near Monhnyin village in Sidoktaya Township, which borders Pwint Phyu Township. The attack resulted in the deaths of eight civilians and 24 cattle, and left four others injured.
