Junta deploys troops as it launches airstrikes in Salin

Locals report that the military council is reinforcing its troops and launching airstrikes in Salin Township, Magway Region, following the powerful earthquake on 28 March.

On 30 March, the military council deployed approximately 100 troops along with heavy weapons to Salin Township, and conducted an airstrike on 31 March.

A local from the Pwintphyu-Salain road section stated, “Yesterday, they arrived by car from Minbu. I’ve never seen heavy weapons like that before. They’re huge and covered with rainproof sheets. The weapon-laden vehicles hit the power lines.”

He said that around 100 troops, including four vehicles loaded with heavy weapons, had reinforced the Tawseint camp.

Locals reported that on 31 March, three jet fighters from the military council bombed a location in Salin Township. The details of the situation are still under investigation.

On the morning of 24 March, three people, including a monk, were injured in an airstrike carried out by the military council on Salin Township.

After the 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck Sagaing and Mandalay, the National Unity Government (NUG) announced a two-week ceasefire in offensive operations in the quake-affected areas. However, the military council continued daily aerial bombings.
