The military council has banned the transportation of fuel and food from Dawei to Launglon, Tha Yet Chaung, and Dawei Ashae Taw in Tanintharyi Region, according to local residents.
Locals reported that since the last week of April, the military council has banned the transportation of fuel and food at checkpoints on the exits of Dawei, including Kamyawkin Bridge, Byaw Taw Wa, Pauk Taing, and Ein Shey Pyin. The military council has also been inspecting and seizing these goods.
Local residents report that fuel and food items are being forcibly confiscated at these military council checkpoints.
Due to the military council’s ban, there is a growing demand for food and fuel in Dawei Ashae Taw, Launglon Township, and Tha Yet Chaung Township, leading to rising commodity prices and shortages.
The villages are currently relying on their remaining food and fuel, and that a long-term ban could create significant difficulties for the locals.
Due to the military council’s restrictions, the price of goods in the region has increased by at least 20 to 30 percent, with a liter of gasoline now costing around 5,000 kyats.
Tensions remain high, with daily fighting erupting in Dawei Ashae Taw and Tha Yet Chaung Townships. The military council has imposed a ban on the transportation of fuel and food while carrying out continuous airstrikes in the area.
Locals say the military council has pressured fuel shop owners and banned them from transporting and selling fuel outside of Dawei.
