The military junta has banned the transportation of food supplies and fuel in Launglon Township, Tanintharyi Region, where military tensions are high between junta forces and People’s Defense Forces (PDFs), according to local residents.

Following four consecutive days of fighting in Kyauk Ni Maw village in Launglon Township, the junta checkpoint at Ka Myaw Kin Bridge in Dawei has prohibited the transportation of food and fuel into Launglon Township since 28 December, local residents report.

A Launglon resident said: “Before we could transport things if we paid money, but now they’re saying at the Ka Myaw Kin checkpoint that they won’t allow any basic goods like rice, cooking oil, salt, onions, or any fuel to pass through at all.”

Local residents say that the military council has long implemented food and fuel restrictions in Tanintharyi Region townships during periods of conflict, and the current ban is due to ongoing military tensions between junta forces and resistance alliance forces in the township.

Due to these restrictions, several villages in Launglon Township are stockpiling fuel and food supplies, with many items at risk of becoming scarce.

According to reports, the Launglon Township People’s Administration has provided 100 small bags of rice to civilians who have been displaced from villages within the township.

Th PDF alliance began attacking the military positions of junta and Pyu Saw Htee militia in Kyauk Ni Maw village on 23 December, and military tensions continue to remain high.

Local defense forces report that during the fighting, the military provided air support and naval artillery support from naval ships, and drone bombing attacks burned down over 20 homes in Kyauk Ni Maw village.

According to local sources, the junta has banned the transportation of rice and other provisions in Tanintharyi Township, Palaw Township, Dawei’s Ah Shey Taw area, and Taung Pyauk area of Tha Yet Chaung Township since last year.
