Junta attacks injure five women and destroy homes in two Tanintharyi villages

Five local women were injured and three houses were burned down by the junta’s shelling and drone attacks on two villages in Tanintharyi Township in Tanintharyi Region, according to locals.

Locals reported that at around 3 p.m. on 29 January, the No. 306 Artillery Battalion, stationed in Maw Tone, launched artillery shelling and drone strikes on Leltaungyar and Nyaung Pin Kon villages, despite there being no ground fighting.

A local said: “A heavy shell fired by the military council landed and exploded on a house in Leltaungyar village. Shorly after, the military council dropped bombs on the same house.”

The military council’s shelling and done attacks injured five women including a 10-year-old Grade-5 female student from Leltaungyar village. One of the injured was seriously injured, and a house was also burned down, the local added.

The military council is preventing locals injured by its shelling from receiving medical treatment at the Tanintharyi Township Hospital, accusing them of being from a village where the PDFs are active.

At around 5:30 pm on the same day, Maw Tone-based No.306 Artillery Battalion attacked Nyaung Pin Kone with drones, burning down two houses, a local woman said.

The military council fired heavy shells in Pawa village and Tharrahpon(East) village in Tanintharyi Township on 22 January without any fighting, injuring four men and three women.

Meanwhile, the military council’s raid on the southern part of Thayetchaung Township in Tanintharyi Region on 27 January forced over 2,000 people from seven villages to flee.
