A joint People’s Defense Force (PDF) attacked Maung Ma Kan police station in Launglon Township, Tanintharyi Region, in the early morning of 31 January, according to locals.

The ensuing battle between the two sides lasted for about an hour from 6.30am to 7.30am, with military junta’s naval vessels continuously firing with heavy weapons, locals said.

Due to the fighting at Maung Ma Kan police station, residents had to flee to safer places and urban areas of Dawei, according to displaced locals.

The battle resulted in casualties on the side of the military junta, while the PDF fighters were able to retreat without casualties, according to a PDF fighter involved in the military operation.

Similarly, a joint PDF attacked Maung Ma Kan police station with drones on 30 January, causing some police station buildings to be burned or damaged, he added.

On the same day, joint PDFs simultaneously attacked three Myanmar Army positions in urban areas of Launglon, leading to fierce fighting between the two sides that lasted more than five hours, according to the joint PDFs.

Neither the military junta nor the joint People’s Defense Forces have yet issued statements on the attack on Maung Ma Kan police station.
