Intense fighting ongoing in Min Thar village in Tamu

Fighting between joint resistance forces and military junta troops was ongoing in Min Thar village in Tamu Township at the India-Myanmar border, from 28 to 30 January, according to residents.

Locals report that the joint resistance forces have launched offensive attacks on junta outposts located in Min Thar and Kyun Pin Thar villages in Tamu Township.

“I think they’re conducting airstrikes around Min Thar. We can hear constant thunderous sounds,” said a local resident.

During the three days of fighting, the military junta conducted airstrikes and artillery attacks, reportedly causing casualties among the resistance side, according to pro-military outlets.

Min Thar village, where the fighting is taking place, is located approximately one mile from the India-Myanmar border and there are two junta outposts there.

The fighting intensified just days after the resistance forces distributed announcements in mid-January declaring their intention to launch an offensive to capture Tamu town.

Junta airstrikes on Khampat town, Kanan village, and Khun Mun Num village within Tamu Township this January resulted in five deaths and over 20 injuries.

Due to the fighting in Tamu Township, residents have reportedly fled to India’s Manipur State.

In previous years, nearly 6,000 people have fled to Manipur State due to fighting, and India has stated its intention to repatriate the refugees.
