Locals in Parlaung, Dawtaroe and Dawsae villages have fled to safer places as the junta troops have been carrying out offensive operations in Parlaung village in the east of Loikaw Township in Karenni State since last week.
The IDPs are in need of materials, rations and waterproof sheets, according to locals.
A local said: “The Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) are in big trouble. The situation here is worse as there is no necessary preparations like downtown. The IDPs have no even waterproof sheets and face a shortage of ration. They could not bring along many things as they fled for their lives. Their rations will run out in the next week. Among the IDPs were pregnant women and unhealthy persons.”
Locals are still hiding as a military column of around 300 soldiers are heading to the village on Loikaw-Shardaw road by firing shots.
They also torched a house in Parlaung village and stole the properties from houses and shops.
The junta troops arrested three young men from Dawtayoe and Dawsae while they went to the villages to take rations on January 2nd.
The military released them in the evening by tying up, beating and taking photos of the detainees. So, the IDPs do not dare to return to their villages to bring food.
In the last week, a combined force of the Karenni Army (KA) and the Karenni Nationalities Defence Force (KNDF) ambushed the junta troops marching to Loikaw, near the Kyat cave.
Soldiers of the junta troops were killed and injured in the ambush. Currently, the junta troops have arrived in Parlaung village, said an official of the KNDF’s Information Department.”
Currently, the junta troops are stationed in the village. More than 1,000 locals from Parlaing, Dawtaroe and Dawse villages are taking shelter in safer places as fighting may erupt between a combined force of the KA and the KNDF and the junta troops, at any time.
Fighting is taking place in Loikaw, Demawsoe and Phruso Townships in Karenni State every day. The KNDF has warned the public to avoid travelling due to the growing military tension between the junta troops and the KNDF.
