Five people were killed and at least 10 others injured in an aerial bombing by the military council on 24 April, around 3 p.m., in Mawchee, Hpasawng Township, Karenni State, according to local residents.
Locals reported that those killed in the bombing included two women, one infant, and two men.
In addition, seven children under the age of 15 were among the 10 people injured in the aerial bombing.
A local said: “The junta dropped bombs while they were refining lead. The bombing affected far more people than the first time and hit everyone, both children and adults.”
Locals said that the military council bombed the area where the workers were gathering and working, affecting both the workers and their families living in the surrounding area.
The total number of casualties is still unknown, as the injured have been moved to another location for treatment.
According to locals, an inquiry is still ongoing into claims that a man, believed to be Chinese, was among the deceased.
Locals said that those injured in the recent bombing have been transported to other areas, as there are no doctors available to treat them locally.
A local said, “There are one or two nurses. The rest are those who completed the training course.”
Locals mentioned that many workers from different ethnic groups come to the Mawchee area for work. In this emergency situation, there are no doctors available in the area to treat the injured, and essential medical supplies are also lacking.
On 7 March, the military council bombed the Mawchee, killing two civilians and injuring at least 10 others.
The Karenni National Solidarity Organization (KNSO) has also urged people in the Mawchee to dig bomb shelters for air defense and be vigilant about security.
