Fighting has broken out between military council troops and a joint force of the Karen National Union/Karen National Liberation Army (KNU/KNLA) and the People’s Defense Forces (PDF) in Thingannyinaung village in Myawaddy Township, Karen State, according to locals.
The fighting reportedly erupted after the joint resistance force opened fire on the Myanmar Army and BGF camps at around 5 am.
“They have been exchanging fire since early morning. They have been firing continuously until now and have also fired artillery.”
Fighting between the two sides also affected the trading zone and some sections of the Pyidaungsu highway between Myawaddy and Kawkareik were also damaged, locals said.
Locals also reported airstrikes by the Myanmar military around 9 am.

According to the latest information, the Myawaddy-Mae Sot Friendship Bridge 1 was closed due to the fighting.
