Intense clashes are ongoing between military junta troops and the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA), accompanied by junta bombings, local residents report.
Ground sources confirm that fighting between the two sides is taking place in Tawng Hkam village, located within Nawnghkio Township.
A resident from Tawng Hkam said: “They announced that the fighting would stop. But, on the ground, the clashes are extremely intense. They’re even bombing with planes. In Tawng Hkam, there isn’t a single day they don’t come and bomb with aircraft. It’s relentless.”
On the morning of 7 April, heavy fighting also erupted between the two sides at the junta’s Artillery Battalion-902, with locals reporting that the junta conducted airstrikes and bombings in the area as well.
Similarly, the TNLA has also reported that the military dropped three chemical gas bombs near the 902 base in Tawng Hkam village during an attack.
Furthermore, on the night of 5 April, the military carried out an airstrike on Nam Hsawng Hu village in Nawnghkio Township, resulting in the destruction of four homes, according to residents.
Despite the junta’s announcement of a 20-day ceasefire from 2 to 22 April, the TNLA claims that the council has been reinforcing its military strength, launching offensives, and conducting airstrikes even in areas where no fighting is occurring, targeting areas under the control of the Palaung State Liberation Front/Ta’ang National Liberation Army (PSLF/TNLA).
In recent days, jet fighters have bombed areas west of Mogok town as well as Nawng Len and Nam Hsawng Hu villages in Nawnghkio Township, causing widespread damage to civilian homes.
Locals also report that on 28 March, during a powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake in Myanmar, the junta still conducted jet fighter airstrikes in Nawnghkio Township.
Although the junta announced a 21-day temporary ceasefire following the earthquake’s impact, ethnic armed organizations claim that it continues to carry out relentless bombings targeting civilian areas.
