Arakan Army (AA) spokesman U Khaing Thukha confirmed that the AA has successfully captured the entire Taungup Township, including No.5 Military Operations Command (MOC-5), the junta’s last camp in Taungup Township, Arakan State.

“The AA has taken control of the entire Taungup Township,” said U Khing Thukha.

At around 4:10 pm on 14 December, the AA captured MOC-5. Military council troops who fled during the battle are being chased and attacked, U Khing Thukha said.

The MOC-5 is headquartered in Taungup Township, where LIB-544 and LIB-346, the No.926 Logistics company, and the Field Military Engineering Battalion are all under its command.

After capturing these camps, the AA took control of the entire Taungup Township. In one week, the AA gained complete control of two district towns in Arakan State.

The AA captured two district towns—Maungdaw on 8 December and Taungup on 14 December.

So far, the AA has captured 13 townships—12 in Arakan State and Paletwa Township. Intense fighting is ongoing in Ann and Gwa Townships.

Similarly, the remaining towns to be captured by the AA are Sittwe, Kyaukphyu, and Manaung. Military analysts predict that Ann and Gwa Townships, where fighting is still intense, will be captured by the end of December.
