A 72-year-old IDP woman died on the spot from a bullet wound when returning to her home at Sikar ward-1 in Moebye in Karenni (Kayah) state on the morning of 15 July, according to locals.

“It took place at around 9 am. She returned home with her daughter in order to carry rice. Luckily, her daughter did not get any wounds in the shooting. The victim died on the spot with two to three wounds to her chest, a local said.

Since the last week of May, fighting took place between the military council force and the combined force at Sikar-1 ward in Moebye. Currently, the military council force is stationed in the ward, according to locals.

The military council usually fires shots at the locals who returned home to take rice, for no apparent reason, locals said.

At present, most of the locals have not returned to their homes due to the frequent fighting in Moebye. However, some locals return to their homes to take food rations and to check their homes, according to locals.

“Most of the locals are not in a position to return home. Some people can go home while some don’t dare to stay there. Locals have fled due to heavy civilian casualties. Some people have fled to very far places. Fighting may take place in Moebye at any time,” locals added.

The military council soldiers are stationed in some wards in Moebye and along Union road, according to locals.

The military council’s shelling and shootings killed 30 locals from Moebye, according to locals from Moebye.

As tension continues to mount between the military council force and the combined force in Moebye, the defense forces have warned the public to go outside with caution.
