Local residents report that military junta troops conducting offensives in Kye village tract in Palaw Township, Tanintharyi Region, are breaking into homes of displaced people and taking valuable items away using both large and small vehicles.

There have been daily armed clashes between junta troops and resistance forces after the junta troops launched operations in the village tract under the pretext of ‘area clearance’ on 12 October.

Due to these battles, over 4,000 residents from the villages of Kyay, Ta Po, Za Yat Seik, Mein Ma, Min Pyin, and Baing Pyin have been forced to flee their homes to safer locations.

One local resident said, “The junta forces are breaking into displaced people’s homes and stealing everything from valuable items and furniture to food supplies.”

The resident added that junta forces are breaking into the displaced residents’ homes daily and have even transported away more than 30 motorcycles from a motorcycle shop using their vehicles.

The fighting in Palaw continued around Kye village as of 28 October, and residents are still unable to return to their homes.

Due to the fighting, hundreds of cargo vehicles are reportedly stranded on the Palaw-Myeik road, forcing travelers to primarily use water routes for transportation.

According to a report by FE5 Tanintharyi, a regional research group, armed conflicts in Tanintharyi Region during September caused nearly 60,000 people to flee their homes.
