The junta troops stationed in Maung Mei Shaung village in Dawei Township of Tanintharyi Region again destroyed civilian houses in retaliation for an attack, local residents said.
At around 9 am on 20 September, People’s Defense Forces (PDFs) launched an attack on the junta forces in Maung Mei Shaung village, with the fighting lasting nearly two hours.
The exact number of houses burned down by the military council, which faced significant losses, is still unknown.
A local of Maung Mei Shaung said: “The military council troops set fire to the houses in the village whenever they come under attack.”
Local residents reported that the military council has burned houses in the village at least four times, with at least 20 homes destroyed this time.
All the villagers have left Maung Mei Shaung village since the military council has been stationed there since July.
A report by Data for Myanmar, a local research group, indicates that over the three years of the coup, the military council and its allies have burned down more than 100,000 civilian houses.
