Three more men were killed after air and naval attacks by the military junta on Kanet Thiri village in Tha Yet Chaung Township in Tanintharyi Region, according to local sources.
The junta dropped about 20 bombs on Kanet Thiri village at noon on 10 May using two attack helicopters and a fighter jet. In addition, the junta’s naval vessels attacked the village with heavy shells, locals said.
The aerial and naval attacks killed three residents over 40 years old – Ko Naung Gaw, Ko Naing Gyi and Ko Nyi Oo – who were in their homes. According to locals, some were also injured.
Many civilian homes were damaged in the attacks, but the exact number was not known as most residents have fled their homes due to the attacks.
Also on 8 May, the military council carried out airstrikes on Kanet Thiri and Ya Nge villages, killing two local teenagers aged 16, – Maung Paing Soe Thu and Maung Hein Pyae Phyo, on the spot and injuring at least six other children.
According to local observers, the junta carried out targeted airstrikes on civilians without there being any fighting on the ground after the Pe Det police station in the Tha Yet Chaung area was captured by the resistance forces.
So far, the military junta’s offensives have displaced thousands of people from the villages of Ya Nge, Kywe Min Kone, Kyauk Kha Mauk and Kanet Thiri in Tha Yet Chaung Township, according to locals
