Military council places ban on motorcycle riding in Kanpauk

Locals are facing transportation difficulties as the military council has placed a ban on riding motorcycles in Kanpauk of Yebyu Township in Tanintharyi Region, according to locals.

On January 25, three persons including military-appointed administrator U Khin Soe from Kanpauk village-tract were shot dead by members of the People’s Defense Force (PDF) on a motorbike.

The ban on motorcycles came after that shooting.

Following the shooting the military council warns that motorbike drivers shall be arrested.

A Kanpauk local said the people face difficulties in the sectors of health, business and education due to the military council’s ban on motorcycles.

Due to the ban on motorbikes, locals from Kanpauk have to rely on bicycles, three-wheel motorbike and power tiller to go from one place to another.

One person was killed and the ward administrator and his subordinate were seriously wounded in the shooting. They are admitted to Kanpauk Station Hospital.

The military council arrested 12 locals for alleged links to the shooting. They are being interrogated at Mawrawaddy naval base.
