Sai Nyunt Lwin elected as Chair of the SNLD

The Shan Nationalities League for Democracy (SNLD) elected the new central executive committee members at the nationwide congress on May 27th.

The SNLD re-elected 117 central committee members including 31 central executive committee members at the two-day congress held in Taunggyi of Shan State, in accordance with the rules and regulations of the party.

The SNLD held its congress on May 26th and 27th.

Sai Nyunt Lwin was elected as Chair of the SNLD, Sai Khan Paing Pha (aka) Sai Khin Maung Nyunt as Vice-Chair-1, Sai Hla Pe (aka) Lone Say Ywan as Vice-Chair-2, Sai Hla (aka) Sai Lake as General Secretary and Sai Kyaw Nyunt as Joint-Secretary-1.

The SNLD also laid down an eight-point task after the two-day congress, according to the statement.

In its message sent to the SNLD’s congress, the Mon Unity Party (MUP) said: “We believe that the collective unity among all ethnics is really needed under the current political situation.”

Naing Ye Zaw, ex-Central Executive from the Mon Unity Party (MUP) which attended the SNLD’s congress said: “In my view, among the ethnic parties, the SNLD has a political leadership. It also represents ethnics. It made persistent efforts for the federal union affairs. The SNLD stands firmly on its policy. The SNLD wins praise and blame due to its stance. We recognize the SNLD as it takes a firm stance on its assumption.”

In its statement, the SNLD said it would stand for Dhamma when the country sees the rapidly-changing political and military spaces. It called on all the groups to participate in the local-peace process. Likewise, it would draft a new charter which is aimed for the federal democratic union in cooperation with its partners and push for the emergence of a better education system which is the lifeblood of the country.
