“Although this was the first time female comrades fought in an offensive on a junta position, women have also participated in other guerrilla-style battles. But this was a bigger battle, and more women participated in it. In previous battles, many women served in medical units and were on the very front lines, pulling back wounded comrades.” – Comrade Ni Ni Kyaw, General Secretary of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA)

Along the main road from Kanma to Pauk, particularly the Pakokku–Kanma–Pauk highway route, villagers have fled their homes. The people from 18 villages including Hta Naung and Man Kyi Thone Pin have fled. There are around 20,000 IDPs.” Local IDP aid worker
