The total number of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Tanintharyi Region surpassed 68,000 in November due to ongoing fighting between the junta forces and revolutionary forces, as well as the junta’s shelling, according to FE5 Thanintharyi, a local research group.
FE5 Tanintharyi said that the number of IDPs in Tanintharyi Region increased in November due to the junta’s burning of civilian houses, killings of civilians, and the battles resulting from prolonged raids into villages.
Fighting has displaced over 31,900 people from Dawei, Launglon, Yebyu, and Thayetchaung Townships in Dawei District. Prolonged raids and ongoing clashes have forced nearly 12,000 people to flee in Launglon Township alone.
According to the report, at least 35,900 people have been displaced due to the battles and airstirkes in Myeik, Palaw and Tanintharyi Townships in Myeik District.
As the junta conducts raids in parts of Palaw Township and has regained control of some villages, those who had returned home are now fleeing once again.
Nearly 500 people have fled their homes in Kawthoung District due to the military council’s raids and the burning of their homes.
Meanwhile, locals are facing difficulties as the military council has restricted the transport of rice, rations, and medicine in Ashaetaw area in Dawei, Taungpyauk Station in Thayetchaung, and in Tanintharyi and Palaw Townships.
FE5 Tanintharyi also reported that the number of IDPs in Tanintharyi Region constantly changes, depending on the junta’s offensives and the ongoing battle situation.
According to, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA), nearly 3.5 million people have been displaced due to armed conflicts in the country.
