Three military council soldiers including an officer were killed and more than two others wounded in an attack by a joint force including the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and Kyaikto Revolutionary Force (KRF) on Mokepalin junction police checkpoint in Kyaikto Township of Thaton District which is under the control of Brigade-1 Karen National Union (KNU), according to the KRF.

At 11.35 am on 3 December, the joint revolutionary forces attacked the checkpoint with eight hand-made 60 mm mortar, 20 40-mm and one drone bomb. The attack killed an officer, a corporal and a private from the military council and seriously wounded more than two others, according to the KRF.

“At present, a military officer, a corporal and a private were killed. Two police members were seriously wounded. Many military council soldiers are wounded,” a member of KRF said.

The joint attack was carried out by the KNLA, the KRF, RAVENS military column, All Burma Students’ Democratic Front (ABSDF), Kyaikto Township PDF, Mokepalin PDF and YEF TPDF Drone Force. There were no reports of casualties from the joint force, according to the KRF’s statement.

After the fighting, the auxiliary troops from the military council arrived at the checkpoint and temporarily blocked the Yangon-Mawlamyine highway and conducted inspections.

“At around 1 pm, the highway reopened. After the fighting, the road was closed. The military council has tightened inspections of travellers,” a local said.

The joint revolutionary forces have been carrying out frequent attacks on the checkpoint since the military coup, which resulted in the casualties of military council soldiers.

In late March, six military council soldiers and one member of the joint KNLA were killed in the attack on the camp.
