Chin Human Rights Organization (CHRO) and Chin Defense Forces said that the military council has installed CCTV cameras in at least 5 places in Hakha, where the Chin State military council is headquartered, to monitor the activities of local defense forces and revolutionary forces.
Locals are also worried that more civilians will be arrested and inspected after the installation of security cameras.
Salai Mang Hre Lian, Program Manager of the CHRO said: “Fighting may occur in camps and police stations in Hakha at any time. The installation of CCTV cameras aims to monitor the movements of the local defense forces and take cover.”
Security cameras are installed near government offices, the residence of the former Chin State chief minister and the roads to the churches.
Before the military coup, security cameras were installed only in banks and hospitals in Hakha. Currently, security cameras are installed in some military camps, offices and active areas of the military council force, a local from Hakha said.
Currently, CCTV cameras have been installed in five places to monitor the situations in the entire Hakha, the local confirmed.
The military council is not in a position to install CCTV cameras in the whole city.
An official of Chinland Defense Force (CDF)-Hakha said: “We have got the news that the military council has installed CCTV cameras in the military camps, some offices and important places in Hakha.”
There are frequent intense fighting between the combined Chinland Defense Forces and the military council force in Hakha Township.
The CDFs are frequently carrying out urban guerrilla attacks on the military council’s offices and camps in city of Hakha during two and a half year of the military coup.
The military council declared martial law in eight townships in Chin State except for Paletwa Township.
