Karenni State Interim Executive Council officially formed

The Karenni State Interim Executive Council (IEC) announced its official formation on 12 June.

The formation of Karenni State Interim Executive Council aims to develop collective leadership and executive of an interim state government, to make efforts to bring stability and peace to the state through a check and balance of legislative, executive and judiciary sectors and to make practical cooperation with various forces in the state, the statement says.

According to the political leadership and policy guidelines of the Karenni State Consultative Council (KSCC), the Karenni State Interim Executive Council was formed on June 6, 2023 with six members.

In his speech the chair of Karenni State Interim Executive Council said: “We must recognize and be proud of the brave young people from all over the country, including our Karenni youth, who are bravely fighting for their future in the jungles to end this evil military system. On the other hand, we don’t want them to lose their dreams, hopes and goals in this great revolution for an endless period of time. Because of these factors, I started this executive council in the midst of many challenges.”

The IEC will continue to gather the forces of the resistance groups to protect the people from the military junta. It will also provide public services such as police, prison and rule of law in Karenni State through its 12 departments, which will systematically manage state resources and provide public services to the people.
It promises to work with various groups across the country for the transformation of the new political system in Myanmar. After a new Karenni government with full self-determination has been formed, the IEC will be dissolved. In addition to this, the announcement states that the forces will work together to bring about a change in the deteriorating conditions of the country.

At the official launch, Duwa Lashi La, Acting President of the National Unity Government said: “During the Spring Revolution, it is a land or state that is filled with the most unique characteristics. Now we will see that Karenni State’s war of resistance and revolution is bigger than the area of ​​the state. The strength of the Karenni people and the bravery of the Karenni soldiers is amazing.”

Khun Bedu, Vice Chair of the IEC as well as chairperson of the Karenni Nationalities Defence Force, promised that the IEC will continue to gather the forces of the resistance groups to protect the people from the military junta.

Khu Oo Reh, Chairperson of the Karenni National Progressive Party (KNPP) serves as the chair of the IEC, Khu Plu Reh is the IEC’s general secretary, Ma Zue Padonmar is its first secretary, U Banyar Khun Aung is the second secretary and Maw Poe Myar is the treasurer.

The IEC aims to have at least 12 state affairs departments. According to the policy guidelines established by the Karenni State Consultative Council, the tax funds of the state are properly managed and prepared to work for the benefit of the staff and the public, the statement says.

The IEC has requested all professionals and experts who joined the Civil Disobedience Movement against the dictatorship to join it to work for the people.
