Military council troops have reportedly torched houses in Tlangzar village on the road between Falam and Hakha townships in Chin State on 3 April, destroying about six houses.

The arson attack on Tlangzar occurred after a clash between marching regime troops from Falam and Chin Defense Forces between 11 am and 12 pm on 3 April, said a member of a Chin defense force.

“There have been repeated clashes between junta troops and the People’s Defense Forces (PDF). They are always supported by artillery from Falam. From a distance, we can’t tell exactly, but about six houses have been burned down. Because we can’t get to them yet,” said the Chin resistance fighter.

According to local reports, about 20 civilian houses have been damaged by indiscriminate artillery fire from the junta since 11 April in Tlangrawn village, which is about ten miles from Falam town.

Fighting between local Chin defense forces and regime troops erupted after the junta’s convoy, which came from Kalay Township in Sagaing Region, took up positions in Ramthlo and Tlangrawn villages in Falam Township since 9 March.

“They have been marching on for about three weeks now. This may be part of their strategy. I think they are afraid because along their advance are Chin defense forces. They used both light and heavy weapons this morning. They had 122mm artillery support from Falam,” said another Chin resistance fighter.

Tlangrawn village is located about 17 miles from Falam and consists of 30-50 houses.

Local population have been warned not to pass the road section between Ramthlo and Tlangrawn villages as the military council troops remain in the area.
