Junta uses chemical weapons in Lonejarbwan of Moemauk

November 3, 2022

The military council used chemical weapons during its airstrikes on Lonejarbwan in the east of Moemauk Township, according to the frontline news source of the Kachin Independence Army (KIA).

From October 22 till 10 pm on October 24, the military council bombarded Lonejarbwan where the KIA and the People’s Defense Force (PDF) were stationed.

The military used chemical weapons in the bombardments on October 24, the KIA’s frontline news source told the Kachin News Group (KNG).

“When big smoke arises, the whole body becomes weak. We can do nothing. We have to solve it on our own,” the KIA’s frontline news source says.

The military council also used chemical weapons in the Myohla battle in late August, according to the local defense force.

“A military column includes around 10 persons in greyest uniforms which are similar to the laboratory uniforms. They may be the ones who will shoot chemical weapons,” an official of the Kachin People’s Defence Force (KPDF) says.

Since September, the military council has been conducting an offensive significantly on the Kachin-Sagaing border by using jet fighters. Currently, fighting is still taking place in Moemauk.

Due to the military council’s airstrikes and indiscriminate shootings, locals from Wawan village, Lonejar village, Khunjar village, Naungpauk village and Kharnan ward are taking shelter at the churches, the houses of their relatives in downtown Moemauk and downtown Bhamo.

On October 22, the military column of more than 200 soldiers who left Moemauk, Bhamo and Katha advanced to Lonejarbwan by three military columns. Till date, fighting continues.
