Over 5,000 residents from eight villages have fled after the military council’s troops conducted a raid on the Sa Khan Gyi village-tract in Launglon Township, Tanintharyi Region, using excessive force, according to residents.
Since the last week of August, a military column of over 150 soldiers has been conducting the raid on Sa Khan Gyi village-tract, which consists of eight villages.
Following the junta’s raid, over 5,000 residents from eight villages including Sa Khan Gyi, Hpwar Boke Pyin, Kha Maung Taung and Htein Twin villages have fled to seek safety.
From 31 August to 2 September, the military column set fire to Hpwar Boke Pyin village for three consecutive days. The exact number of houses destroyed is still unknown.
That military column has abducted over 10 women and men from Hpwar Boke Pyin, Sa Khan Gyi and Me Oh Nauk villages to use them as human shields and guides, the villagers said.
According to the report by FE5 Thanintharyi, a local research group, over 60,0000 residents have been displaced by the junta’s offensives and airstrikes in Tanintharyi Region.
