The junta’s recent airstrikes destroyed almost all houses in the villages in Waingmaw Township in Kachin State, according to local residents from Waingmaw.

In recent days, the military council bombed Wuyang, Lamyan and Muk Chyik in Waingmaw Township, destroying almost all houses, local residents said.

On 18 and 19 June, there were intense fighting between a joint force of the military council and Lisu People’s Milita and the KIA and allied forces between Wu Yang and La Myan. The military council conducted intense bombing following heavy casualties, including the death of one of its officers, a local from Waingmaw said.

“On 18 June, there were clashes near the church and houses in La Myan village. The next day, there was another battle on the road that turns from Wu Yang to Nan Zaw Yang. The military council suffered heavy losses during the two-day battle. Among those killed is an officer. Despite no battles in the following days, the military council attacked La Myan and Muk Chyik with jet fighters and heavy shells,” the local said.

The junta’s airstrikes destroyed many houses in Wu Yang, La Myan, Muk Chyik, Nam War and War Shawng villages along the road.

Among them, La Myan and Muk Chyik have suffered the most severe damages. La Myan village has more than 300 houses. Almost all houses and a church were destroyed.

“I went to the village when I heard the news that the junta’s bombing had destoryed all houses in La Myan. My two-storied house was completely destroyed. I found evidence of the bomb damage in the compound of the house. The bombings destroyed the houses near my neighbour and AG church. The roofs of some houses were also destroyed. Almost all houses were hit by bombings,” said a La Myan local.

In recent days, fighting has erupted in Waingmaw Township as the military council forces and militia launched an offensive by shelling the positions held by the KIA and joint forces.

The junta and militia force suffered heavy casualties. Locals found the bodies of junta soldiers and militia members killed in the fighting on the roads in La Myan village. This news is circulating on social media.

On 11 June, the KIA and joint forces captured the camps jointly stationed by the military council forces, people’s militia forces and Border Guard Forces along Sadone-Kanpiketi road in Waingmaw Township. Then, the military council carried out targeted attacks on civilian areas in retaliation for the capture of the camp, said local residents.
