The relevant departments in Magway Region will not take responsibility if civil servants are arrested by soldiers of the military council while they are traveling for personal reasons, said sources close to Non-CDMs.

Currently, the military council is arresting the people as porters and conducting suprise checks in Magway Region.

“We are required to sign a pledge that we must solve any issues ourselves if we are detained while traveling for personal reasons. There have been instances of civil servants being arrested,” said a person close to the Non-CDM staff.

In the first week of June, nearly 80 people were arrested in Salin and Pwintbyu Townships, under the military service law and for the use of Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) Among those arrested are at least five non-CDM employees.

Family members of the detainees reported that the junta released approximately 40 individuals. Those who were released had to pay amounts ranging from Ks-500,000 to around Ks-1.5 million, while others were required to sign pledges indicating their willingness to serve in the military if deemed necessary.

In Magway Region, military council soldiers are conducting forced arrests of youths who have won draft lotteries, and if the draft lottery winners cannot be located, their family members get arrested.

Furthermore, the military council has issued orders prohibiting mask-wearing, the use of crossbody bags, and riding a motorcycle by two men. Junta soldiers have threatened to kill if the people fail to abide by the orders. Those arrested are compelled to sign pledges for military service. Locals report that the military council only releases detainees when they make payments amounting to tens of thousands.
