Four locals from Ann Township of Arakan State were sentenced to three years each in prison by the military council’s court, according to locals.

The military council opened the case against Ma Tin Nilar Aung from Zaytaung ward, Daw Moe Pwint Phyu from Dainggyi village and U Zaw Win Tun from Pyaingtaung village in Ann Township, under Section 505 (a) of the Penal Code.

U Aung Aung Thein from Ann Public Health Department was charged under Section 17 (1) and (2) of the Unlawful Associations Act, locals said.

On 8 March, the three people charged under Section 505 (a) of the Penal Code were sentenced by Ann Township court while U Aung Aung Thein who was charged under Section 17 (1) and (2) of the Unlawful Associations Act was sentenced on 19 March, a local said.

“The dates for the court ruling were not the same. They all got three-year imprisonments. U Zaw Win Tun who was sentenced under Section 505 (a) is a family member of Light Infantry Battalion-372. Another one is a staff from the Public Health Department. But he is not a doctor. He was jailed under Section 17,” said an Ann local.

On the morning of 22 March, two convicted men were sent to Sittwe prison by flight. The remaining two women are being detained in Ann Township court, the local said.

“Two men were sent to Sittwe prison by flight. I think two women will be sent next time,” the local said.

On 6 December, Tin Nilar Aung (aka) Mee Nge, whose Facebook name “Nilar Aung” from Zaytaung ward in Ann Township, was arrested and charged by the military council.
