Southern Shan Revolution Youth (SSRY) on 18 March, issued a warning that action will be taken against the people who are implementing the People’s Military Service Law of the military council in the townships of Southern Shan State.

Action will be taken against officials from Immigration Department, General Administration Department, village/ward administrators, 100-household head and 10-household heads if they cooperate with the military council by ignoring the SSRY’s warning, said an official of the SSRY.

“We have announced it on our 1008 Page. Our 1008 Battlaion will take actions against those at the diffent levels if they ignore our statement and cooperate with the military council, the official said.

Currently, the administrative members are implmenting the military service law in cooperation with the military council in some townships of Taunggyi District and Loilem District in Shan State, according to local residents.

A local woman said: “Locals are worried about the military service law. The mothers who have sons are worried. No one will be happy with the plan to send our children to the front lines after a short-term training.

In its statement, the SSRY’s Battalion No.1008 said it strongly denounces the enforcement of the People’s Military Service Law because the military council wants to enslave the people and recruit them.

Currently, ward administrator offices are carrying out the collection of those eligible for military services, call-ups and draft lotteries nationwide and in most of townships.
