The military council is carrying out door-to-door recruitment of soldiers in Pwintphyu and Saytoketayar Townships of Magway Region, according to locals.

Administrators and military-backed groups are organizing the people in the villages in Pwintphyu Township almost every day. Even military officers are recruiting villagers as militia members, locals said.

A local said: “They explained the facts about military service and militia force. They said two people will be drafted into the army for one batch while the number of people to be recruited for militia forces will be between 20 and 30. Only women from the villages attended the meeting.”

They said the door-to-door recruitments by military officers are aimed for militia forces. They told the villagers that they would recruit them again for military service.

“The captain from the defense industry himself took two people from our village. Youths chose to become soldiers instead of militias as the administrators organized them,” said a local from Saytoketayar.

There are over 600 Pyu Saw Htee members (aka) militia members in Pwintphyu, Salin and Saytoketayar Townships. They underwent training in January 2014, locals said.

The military council equipped the Pyu Saw Htee members who completed military training and administrators with pistols, G-3, MA and UZI. Some of them are performing their duties on the front lines, locals said.

In late February, Pyu Saw Htee members from Pwintphyu and Saytoketayar Townships torched Lonegyi village in Saytoketayar Township together with the military council. The military council even taught them how to celebrate by burning.
