Despite the low participation of women in the All Burma Students’ Democratic Front (ABSDF), three women were elected as members of the central committee at the 12th conference held 1 to 17 November.

Among five female representatives, Comrade Su Su Htwe, Comrade Chaw Wai Wai Lwin and Comrade Thida Khaing were appointed to the level of central committee members by the choice of the committee members who attended, Comrade Kyaw Kyaw Lin said in the press release of the ABSDF’s conference.

“We have a guideline that two women central committee members must be included. In the past, female members were included in the central committee. However, the difficulty we face among our revolutionary armed forces is a decline in the number of female members,” Comrade Kyaw Kyaw Lin said.

“This time, in addition to the participation of more female members of our forces, three of the five female representatives were selected and appointed by the committee members who reached the central committee level,” Comrade Kyaw Kyaw Lin said.

Comrade Kyaw Kyaw Lin continued to say that the division of responsibilities regarding the future work of ABSDF will continue at the central committee meeting, which will be held in the last week of November after the conference.

Since November 1988, the conference of ABSDF (Student Army), which was founded by the majority of 8888 students, has been held once every three years. From the 6th conference to the current conference, Comrade Than Khae was elected as chairperson seven times.

Comrade La Hsaing was appointed as Vice-Chair of the Central Committee, Comrade Sunny as General Secretary, Comrade Kyaw Kyaw Lin as Joint General Secretary-1 and Comrade Hla Htay as Joint General Secretary-2.

Four members of the Central Executive Committee and 16 Central Committee and Reserve Central Committee members were appointed and elected, according to ABSDF’s press release after the conference.

The conference was attended by more than 100 people from battalions and units of the ABSDF, those who have the rights to attend it by law and observers. They said they would engage in a revolutionary struggle to eradicate the military dictatorship in accordance with the military and political goals they have set.

Comrade Kyaw Kyaw Lin, Spokesperson of ABSDF said: “Our future process has been adopted. Together with the forces of the Spring Revolution, we will continue to fight until the end of the military dictatorship and the restoration of democracy, in accordance with the military process regarding four objectives.”
