A second-year student from Dawei University was sentenced to 15 years in prison by the military-run Dawei prison court on 16 October, according to an official of the Prison Department.

The Dawei prison court sentenced Ko Lin Htet Phyo, a second-year student majoring in Philosophy at Dawei University to 15 years in prison for his alleged involvement in funding the revolutionary force, the official said.

The 15-year prison term covers 11 years under Section 50 (j) of the Counter-Terrorism Law and four years under Section 52 (a) of the Counter-Terrorism Law, a person close to the prison court said.

A family member of Ko Lin Htet Phyo said: “The judge delivered a verdict saying that the facts about providing cash and other assistance to the revolutionary forces by phone were found. This is the final order and there are no more charges against him.”

Ko Lin Htet Phyo worked as a DJ at festivals and fun events in Dawei before the military takeover. He has no longer attended the university after the coup. He also helped the protest columns, a person close to the prison court said.

On 26 July, plain-clothes soldiers and police arrested Ko Lin Htet Phyo at his house in Nyaungyantaung ward in Dawei. In the last week of August, he was charged under sections of the Counter-Terrorism Law.

The military council arrested a 34-year-woman from Dawei recently. Ma Yin Yin Cho was charged with five sections including Section of 50 (j) of the Counter-Terrorism Law. She was sentenced to 44 years in prison, according to the statement by the Dawei Political Prisoners Network (DPPN).

In the first week of January, 2023, she was arrested in West ward in Dawei, along with her younger brother Ko Thet Zaw Win.
