Woman and her grandson killed and burned by the military council in Kalay

The military council force killed a 65-year-old woman and her 14-year-old grandson and burned them along with their house in Setkant village in the south-east of Kalay Township of Sagaing Region, according to residents.

On the morning of 7 October, the military council force entered Setkant village and torched the houses. Junta soldiers arrested and killed them who were preparing to flee the village, a source close to the residents said.

The victims are Daw Neih Hnem and Van Bawi Lian.

In addition, Chin National Organization-Upper Chindwin Region (CNO-UCR) announced that a man living with a disability remains in the village and has not yet been found.

Setkant village which is located at the foot of Chin mountain has about 600 households. The village is inhabited by Chin people.

The military council force started burning houses in Setkant village since the morning of 7 October.

Residents estimate that nearly 100 houses may be destroyed.

On 5 January, the military council burned down more than 80 houses in Setkant village.
