The military council arrested three men in Thanbyuzayat, Mon State, and filed a case against them under Section 505 of the Penal Code for allegedly posting political incitement on social media.

According to local residents, those arrested are the owner of a mobile phone repair shop called “Kyaw Kyar Phone Sales and Services” on Aung Zeya Ward, and two of his employees.

“They said they arrested them for posting and sharing political incitement contents. They have opened cases against them under Section 505,” said a Thanbyuzayat resident close to those arrested.

Residents said the military council arrested the owner (Aung Ko Hein, 37 years old) and the two employees (Ko Nyi Nyi Lwin, 34 years old and Ko Nyi Nyi Htwe, 25 years old) of the “Kyaw Kyar Phone Sales and Services” at around 8pm on 20 September for allegedly posting and spreading political incitement on social media.

The phone repair shop owner and two employees have been detained at Thanbyuzayat police station and charged under Section 505 of the Penal Code.

Pro-military Telegram channels claimed that evidence of the trio’s political incitement on social media was found during interrogations.

Locals reported that the military has frequently arrested civilians in Thanbyuzayat and other towns in Mon State on accusations of posting political messages on social media, supporting and funding the People’s Defense Forces (PDF).

Some of the detainees have been charged under Sections 505(a) and 505(b) of the Penal Code, as well as under clauses in the Counter-Terrorism Law that carry prison sentences up to execution.

According to the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP), more than 400 people have been arrested in Mon State since the coup, with around 200 still in detention.
