Four people including a woman were sentenced to life and long-term imprisonments by the military council’s military court in Indaw Township in Sagaing Region on 2 September, according to the Indaw Revolution (IR).

An official of the Indaw Revolution (IR) said: “They are just ordinary civilians. Two are from Indaw Township and the rest from other areas. The military council arrested them at the checkpoint. They all got arrested in a month.”

Ko Zaw Myo Naing from Nyaungbinsu ward in Indaw Township was sentenced to life under Section 50 (j) and 52 (a) of the Counter-Terrorism Law and Ko Tin Maung Win was sentenced to life under Section 50 (j) of the Counter-Terrorism Law and Section 124 (c) of the Penal Code.

Ma Thida Win and Ko Kyaw Thet were sentenced to seven years in prison under Section 50 (j) and 52 (b) of the Counter-Terrorism Law, according to residents and the IR.

An official of the IR said: “Ko Kyaw Thet was arrested in Nankhar village which is adjacent to Indaw on 12 July. The rest were arrested at Indaw checkpoint. I don’t know what they do. They are not involved in the revolution. They are ordinary people.”

They got arrested in July. The military council has imposed martial law and tightened inspection in Indaw Township, according to residents.

A resident from Indaw said: “The situation is very bad in Indaw. The military council has stepped up arrests and inspections. The people in the city are in trouble. Currently, the military situation is stable.”

During this year, the number of those who got life, death and long-term prison sentences in Indaw Township has reached 15. On 18 August, four civilians including a woman were sentenced to death by Indaw military court, residents and officials of the Indaw Revolution (IR) said.

The four civilians who got death sentence are: driver Ko Zaw Myo Tun (aka) Tonny, Ko Kyaw Swa Win (aka) Kyaw Swa, Ma Myint Myint Aye (aka) Ma Aye Aye and Ko Aung Kyaw Kyaw (aka) Lar Lar. They were charged under Section 49 (a) and 52 (a) of the Counter-Terrorism Law, according to the statement by the IR.
