One of the twins died in the military council’s shooting.

An interview with a local woman from KhinU about the death of a one-and-a-half-year-old twin boy due to the shooting by the military council in KhinU.

A 53-year-old man and a one-and-a-half-year-old twin boy died on the night of August 17 in Mya Kantha Ward, KhinU Township in Sagaing Region as the military council opened fire on the Public Defense Force (Underground Force).

The Shanni voice interviewed a local woman who is collecting the ground information in KhinU Township about the fatal incident.

Q: How did the military council’s shooting at a house in Myakantha ward in KhinU Township happen?

A: It occurred in KhinU at around 9 pm on 17 August. The military council fired shots citing there were UG members inside a sleeper factory. A man and a child died on the spot. One of the twins died in the shooting. Soldiers first shot the twins. Then they fired shots as they thought the members of the UG and defense forces were in the factory. A young man in the factory got a wound to his hand. The rest escaped.

Q: Who was affected in the shooting?

A: The military council came to the factory when a child and an adult went outside the factory. Soldiers shot everything they saw.  Soldiers fired shots at the persons, regardless of age. They shot everything they saw. Soldiers shot the duo first. Soldiers fired warning shots and then carried out indiscriminate shootings. A child and an adult died in the shooting as soldiers shot what they saw at 9 pm.  Another youth got a wound to his arm. His hand is to be cut off.

Q: What is the current situation?

A: The children and the adult were buried this morning. They (military group) searched the sleeper factory when they did not find the persons they wanted after the indiscriminate shootings. They left the sleeper factory when they found out that no one was there. The condition of the child’s mother and the rest of the family is unknown. Currently, there is no peace in KhinU. The people flee when the soldiers conduct offensives in the villages. They will die if they don’t run. If there are 30 days a month, I think the people have to flee for about 35 days.

Q: Why do you think the military council fired shots at that place?

A: I think that there are usually a lot of military informants in the city. The military council will not raid that place without the fact that military informants give information about who is present there. They raided it at 9 pm when the people fell asleep.  Those who live in the factory are ordinary people and workers. What does the military council accuse them as the UG?

Q: Do you know where the military council did the shootings?

A: There are troops stationed in the city as well as in KhinU police station. The shootings were made by the troops stationed in KhinU police station.

Q: What is the situation of the victim’s family?

A: I have not got contact with them yet. I get the news only from the defense force.

Q: What would you like to add?

A: The people run when the soldiers come. Like mad dogs, they bite and shoot us when they see us. The people have to run to escape them. They have no humanity. They are killing the people by using the public’s funds. Our people can never forgive this military group. We will work tirelessly till the end with unwavering zeal.
