More than 1,000 locals have fled for safety as the military council army is conducting an offensive and burning civilian houses in Utta and Kyaukhlaygar villages in Thayetchanug Township of Tanintharyi Region, locals told the Than Lwin Times.

On the morning of 6 June, two military columns of over 150 soldiers entered Utta village and Kyaukhlaygar village by firing heavy shells. Locals are taking shelter in safer places and nearby farms, locals said.

The military column burned down two civilian houses in Utta village. Heavy shelling destroyed some houses in Kyaukhlaygar village.

Until now, the military council column continues to be stationed in the villages and is firing heavy weapons at the surrounding villages.

Tension mounts although there is no clash between local defense forces and the advancing military council troops, the revolutionary forces said.

Locals from seven villages fled to safer places as the military council conducted an offensive in Taungpyauk station in Thayetchaung Township on 11 April. Most of the displaced locals do not dare to return home.
