The junta attacked the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA)-Kokang when it held a talk with the Three Brotherhood Alliance in Mongla of Shan State on 1 and 2 June. Fighting continued until 4 June.

The two sides exchanged fire after the military council army conducted an offensive attack on the temporary camp of the Kokang Army (MNDAA) near Pyintaung village in Mupan District in Special Region-1 in northern Shan State at 9 am on 2 June. Fighting lasted for one hour, the Kokang News reported.

At about 12:30 in the afternoon, the military council army with a strength of about 100 soldiers fired and attacked the MNDAA military camp in the area of Shou Min Shan and Kyong Chai Pa. Fighting continued until 3 PM.

On the morning of 3 June, fighting took place at the MNDAA base camp in Toneshan in Kokang District, for two hours.

In the battle, one member of the Kokang (MNDAA) army was killed and one other wounded, and the details of the casualties from the military council are not yet known, the Kokang news agency reported.

At around 10 am on 4 June, the military council fired heavy shells into Kyantitshan village in Kyarshaeshu village-tract in Reeshan of Kokang District, the news reported.

Fighting took place on the ground while the military council’s National Solidarity and Peacemaking Negotiation Committee (NSPNC) was holding talks with the Three Brotherhood Alliance, namely the MNDAA-Kokang, the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) and the Arakan Army (AA) in Mongla of Shan State on 1 and 2 June.

Political analyst U Ye Tun (Thipaw) said, “They have no intention of meeting and discussing with the State Administration Council. If it’s true that China pressured them to hold talks, I don’t see any good results from the talks.”

According to the Chinese government’s negotiation, the talks were scheduled to take place for three days from 1 to 3 June in Mongla, but the talks had to be stopped on the second day.

The military council has not released any information regarding the news of the battle in the Kokang region.
