Advancing junta army troops have been arresting and assaulting residents in Thayetchaung Township, Tanintharyi Region, since 23 April, as they move from one village to another, locals told the Than Lwin Times.

On 23 and 24 April, junta soldiers reportedly rounded up over 100 individuals from Yaenge and Weayit villages, subjecting them to beatings and interrogations before releasing them.

On 25 April, a local resident reported that junta soldiers abducted five people from Peintaw and Kazi villages, tying their hands behind their backs.

According to reports, the five individuals arrested by regime soldiers are ordinary civilians who do odd jobs and were suspected of having links to recent mine explosions between Peintaw and Kazi villages.

The families of the five arrested locals are reportedly concerned for their safety. The act of military council troops moving from one village to another and arresting residents has been criticized by locals as an attempt to instill fear in the population.
