The Karenni Revolution Union (KRU), based in Demoso Township in Karenni (Kayah) State, has been reorganized as a single Karenni revolution battalion, according to officials.

“It’s been about a year now. In the coming years, it may be difficult to exist as a combined force. It may also weaken our military structure. All seven units of KRU operate as separate units. The main thing is that we want to strengthen our military activities. We decided to reform them as a battalion to achieve better military cooperation with local defense forces,” said a spokesman for KRU.

The seven units of KRU were reformed into a battalion on 7 April with the aim of uniting them.

After the separate units such as the KRU Commando, Karenni Democratic Front (KDF), Fight For Justice-JPDF, GZ-21-PDF (Loikaw), Southern Shan Local Revolution Union (SSLRU), Federal Democracy Brotherhood Force (FDBF) and Medic Unit (Demoso) are merged into one battalion under the KRU, the names of the parent army will disappear so that there will be only one KRU Battalion, he said.

He went on to say that there will be a central committee above the newly formed battalion consisting of a battalion commander, a deputy battalion commander, a company commander, a platoon commander and a section commander.

In addition, the battalion will include six companies and all military commands will be given by a single battalion commander, the KRU spokesman added.

“Now that the battalion has been formed, we have handed over command and control to a battalion commander. He will give the military orders. I hope military activities will become stronger if we can join forces with local allied forces.”

The KRU said they will also welcome new revolutionary forces in Karenni State. At the same time, the newly formed battalion will strive to strengthen its military power and will only engage in battles that benefit the people of Karenni, revolutionary allies and its own battalion, KRU officials said.

The KRU battalion currently controls the area along Konethar village in Demoso Township.

It participates in military operations with allies such as the People’s Defense Force – Demoso, the Karenni Nationalities Defense Force (KNDF) and also participates in military activities and battles alongside other revolutionary allies in Pinlaung Township.
