Army burns down almost all houses in Kalar village of Matupi Township

Around 30 civilian houses were burned down by the military council soldiers in Kalar village on Matupi-Paletwa road in Matupi Township of Chin State, according the statement by the Matupi Township Public Administration Body.

The military council troops which sent rations from Matupi to Paletwa, burned down 30 houses in Kalar village—nine on 31 March and 21 on 1 April.

Ko Salai Par Htaung, information officer of the Matupi Township Public Administration Body said: “Fighting took place near Kalar village. The attack damaged the military council’s ration vehicle. They entered the village and then burned civilian houses. On 31 March, they burned the lower village. They spent one night in the upper village. On 1 April, they left for Walantae village after burning 21 houses in the upper village.”

On 3 April, the military council continued to burn the houses in Walantae village. The extent of damages is still unknown, according to the statement.

Kalar village which is located about 24 miles from Matupi has 45 households. Only 15 houses are left in the village following the military council’s arson.

Since 20 March, fighting has continued between the military council and the CDF-Matupi in Matupi Township. The military council suffered heavy casualties in the fighting.

Currently, locals from Kalar village and Walantae village between Matupi and Paletwa are taking shelter in the forests.
