Junta bombards Mindat Township

The military council bombarded Mindat-Matupi road located about 10 miles from Mindat of Chin State, at around 10 pm on 13 March, with two jet fighters, according to an official of the Chinland Defense Force (CDF)-Mindat.

“One of two jet fighters dropped bombs on the Mindat-Matupi road section last night. The military council fired more than 20 rounds of heavy shells throughout the night. The exact location and the extent of damages are still unknown. This morning, the military council fired four rounds of heavy shells,” he said.

At the same time, the Light Infantry Battalion-274 based in Mindat carried out indiscriminate artillery shelling. The junta’s indiscriminate artillery shelling continued till the morning of 14 March.

The bombardment came after a military convoy of more than 80 military vehicles arrived in Kyaukhtu via Pakokku on 13 March.

The military council fired artillery shells to clear the road as the military convoy may head to Mindat and Matupi Townships in Chin State.

On 13 March, the CDF-Mindat issued a statement warning the public to avoid using Kyaukhtu-Mindat-Matupi road as the military convoy may head to Mindat and Matupi Townships.

The military council continues to cut off mobile phone lines and internet access in Mindat, Matupi and Kanpetlet Townships in southern Chin State. It is difficult to know the detailed situations on the ground.
