Ex-Minister for Mon State Security and Border Affairs survives bomb attack

The Mudon People’s Defense Force (MPDF) issued a statement claiming that it carried out an remote mine attack on a car carrying Colonel Win Naing Oo, Ex-Mon State Minister for Security and Border Affairs, at around 6.30 pm on January 15.

The MPDF attacked his car near the entrance of his compound on U San Pe road at No.3 ward in Mudon Township on his way back home.

“There were no reports of any casualties in the attack. The mine attack hit and damaged the vehicle carrying Colonel Win Naing Oo. The military council has detained and is interrogating some people in connection with the attack. But the detailed information about it is still unknown,” a local from Mudon says.

Ex-Minister Colonel Win Naing Oo ran for a seat for Mudon Township in the 2020 election representing the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP). He did not win the seat.

Currently, the ex-minister serves as a leader of Pyu Saw Htee and a big pillar of the military council, according to the MPDF.

In 2022, USDP candidate U Min Aung Myint from Mudon Township was injured in an attack on his house.

The USDP members from Mudon Township have been facing the attacks since the coup. There are frequent bomb attacks on the ward administrator offices, according to locals.
