A 20-year-old man who was seriously injured after stepping on a landmine planted by the army in MraukU died at MraukU Township Hospital in Arakan State.
Ko Than Naing Kyaw, son of U Tun Shwe from Myothit ward in MraukU worked at a car workshop. His legs were cut off as he stepped on a landmine planted by the army near a bridge in MraukU on September 29th.
He was sent to MraukU Hospital. He died at around 11 pm at MraukU Hospital. The military intentionally plants the landmines which target locals.
“The public are not in a position to compete with the army. All the people here know the army planted mines. We will get an answer if we show it to mine experts. Those who are responsible for the blast should feel sympathy for the parent of the innocent youth.”
Locals from MraukU have assumed that the mine is planted by the army. This is the military’s targeted attack on locals.
At 1 pm on Friday, the body of Ko Than Naing Kyaw was cremated, according to a local from MraukU.
On September 22th, U Tun Hla Thein, 43, from Ohponetaung village in Minbya Township died as he stepped on a landmine planted by No.9 Regional Central Military Training School.
He was seriously injured while searching for his missing cows along with U Nyi Pu at around 4 pm near No.9 Regional Central Military Training School located about six furlongs to the south of the village, a person who helped carry his body said.
In August and September in Arakan State, frequent mine explosions which resulted in casualties were reported. During the seven-month period from January to July, 2022, seven civilians were killed and 20 others injured in Arakan State, according to the Rakhine Ethnic Congress (REC).
