A delegation from the Burmese government will meet with four members of the Northern Alliance of ethnic armed groups this week, according to the Myitkyina-based Peace-talk Creation Group (PCG).

The groups include the Arakan Army, the Kachin Independence Army, the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army and the Ta’ang National Liberation Army.

The PCG’s Lamai Gum Ja said the date and location for the meeting has yet to be determined, but will happen between February 13 and 20.

“Negotiations are still underway. The government wants to the meeting to take place inside the country but EAOs [ethnic armed organizations] prefer to hold the meeting in China. I don’t know where they will eventually meet,” he told KNG.

Lamai Gum Ja also was unsure of the EAOs would meet a delegation from the government’s Peace Commission or the National Reconciliation and Peace Center (NRPC).

Representatives from the NRPC and the KIA held an informal meeting in Kunming, in China’s Yunnan Province, on January 21. They agreed to participate in further meetings.
